Hurtigruten announces a third expedition vessel

A 530 passenger vessel will join the Hurtigruten fleet to be based on the Norwegian line’s two “next-generation” newbuilds, MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjob Nansen which are currently under construction.

The third hybrid-powered vessel which CEO Daniel Skjeldam says are to be “greener and more advanced cruise ships than the world has ever seen and ships that will raise standards for the whole industry to follow as they enter a new era of expedition cruising driven by sustainability” is expected to arrive in the 2nd quarter of 2021, with special innovations including substantially larger battery packs to make expedition voyages even more sustainable.

Aurora Expeditions to double their fleet

Aurora Expeditions have also confirmed that they have a second newbuild expected to join the new Greg Mortimer in time for the 2020/21 cruise season.

The Greg Mortimer has had so much interest that the season for next year is already close to selling out so the addition of the new vessel will be perfect timing to provide a similar configuration of 160 passengers and will be purpose designed for polar expedition cruising.
